Baosteel Special Material Co., Ltd. (referred as Baosteel Special Material) is the only manufacture unit of special steel in Baosteel Group, its original is Shanghai No.5 Steel Plant founded in September 1958 which is earliest manufacture base of special steel. Since the establishment, the enterprise made a great contribution to national economy and national defense affaires, was awarded the honorary titles such as National First Level Enterprise, National Quality Management Award and etc, known as the vanguard of special steel industry.

Baosteel Special Material Co., Ltd. possess of many modern production lines such as special metallurgy, stainless steel and structural steel, high alloy steel bar, silver steel, alloy strip and pipe, formed products group of three series of special metallurgy, stainless steel and structural steel, and focus on the three key industries of aerospace, energy and automobile (transportation), and four major categories of specialized products of die steel, bearing steel, cold roll/mandrel and stainless steel bar.
