Automobile Steel
Baosteel automobile steel consists of different varieties of steel sheet (including outer body panel, inner panel and structural parts); special steel bar (including gear, connection rod, crank, valve, tyre rod and hanging spring wire, valve spring wire and wire rod) and steel tube (including transmission shaft, anti-vibration tube, steering shaft and steering rack).
Baosteel automobile steel includes hot rolled steel sheet/plates, hot rolled and pickled sheet, cold rolled sheet, hot-dip galvanized sheet and electro-galvanized sheet. Altogether there are 150 grades. Baosteel also produces various series products including a cold rolled high strength series and mild steel of various punching grades. We can also produce bake hardenable steel, high strength IF steel, high strength rephosphorized steel for high strength body making steel. Baosteel's 600 MPa cold rolled TRIP steel has attained the international standard for its kind.
Automobile steel is one of the strategic products of Baosteel. In 1999, Baosteel got QS9000 certification by British BSI, which was upgraded to ISO/TS16949:2002 edition in 2003 and became the first enterprise to get ISO/TS16949 certification in China's metallurgical industry. The attestation of sedan sheet of main sedan models' for Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. went on smoothly, Baosteel has passed the whole-car attestation of Shanghai Volkswagen's B5 model, and 142 spare parts or steel grades have passed the attestation of the main sedan models.
Currently, Baosteel automobile steel is used in large quantity by China's top automobile manufacturers such as the China FAW Group Corporation, makers of the Audi A6, Shanghai VW, in their Passat model, and by Buick of Shanghai GM and Ford Europe Company. Sales of automobile steel of Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. have exceeded 1.55 million tons in 2003, covering more than 50% of the domestic market share.
Ship Building Plate
Baosteel produces ship-building plate including common strength grades of A, B, D, E and high strength grades of 32 and 36 kilograms. It can also produce steel plate of various grades used in warship hulls. Baosteel has received the approval certificate from eight international classification societies such as the China Classification Society (CCS), British Lloyd's Register (LR), Norwegian Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the United States ABS, and German Germanischer Lloyd (GL) etc. Baosteel is the steel manufacturer with the most complete varieties and specifications that has received the most international approval certificates in China.
Baosteel can supply whole-ship plate for large-sized ships; Baosteel ship building plate commands 30% of the domestic market. The 5m heavy plate manufacturing line to be put into operation in 2005 will provide large-sized high quality steel plate and will make China a world class ship building center.
Electric Steel
Baosteel devotes itself to the production of non-oriented electric steel that is widely used in compressor, EI core and electric machinery industries.
The annual yield of electric steel is nearly 500 thousand tons, which accounts for more than 50% of the total produced in China. Baosteel electric steel is used by Guangzhou Mitsubishi and other famous companies. Baosteel has also established stable relations with the six top-ranked compressor manufacturers as a supplier of electric steel, and is well reputed in the international steel industry.
Household Electric Appliance Steel
The electro-galvanized sheet and hot-dip galvanized sheet produced by Baosteel is widely used by domestic household electric appliance manufacturers, it accounted for more than 40% of the domestic market share in 2003. Baosteel produces face plate for appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and micro-wave ovens, which demand high surface quality. Fingerprint resistant plate is indispensable to the production of computers and medical equipment. Prestigious household electric appliance manufacturers such as Haier, Shinco, Galanz are all strategic customers of Baosteel.
Oil Country Tubular Goods
Baosteel is the only enterprise in China that can produce oil country tubular goods, casing tube and drill pipe. Baosteel not only produces the widest variety of products that meet API specifications, but also produces non-API standard products. Among them, the high strength drill pipe and oil tube widely used in big oil fields which dominate the domestic market, are also exported to the Middle East, Europe and America.
Pipeline Steel
Through many years of research development, Baosteel has already developed X52, X60, X65 anti- H2S corruption pipeline steel series and X42- X80 pipeline steel series. Baosteel pipeline steel is widely used in the national key projects, such as the world famous east-west gas pipeline project, and it is the biggest pipeline supplier that supplies 66% of the total amount in the project. Baosteel pipeline steel enjoys good reputation in international market; Baosteel has repeatedly won the bids in the international bidding invitation such as the pipeline project in Sudan and Turkey.
Bearing Steel
Baosteel bearings steel line includes high carbon chrome bearing steel, medium carbon chrome bearings steel, chromized carbon bearing steel, stainless bearing steel and high temperature bearing steel. The products are extensively used in aviation, space flight, cars, railroads and electronic instruments etc. Almost all of the foreign invested bearing companies and joint ventures are using Baosteel bearing steel as their raw material in China; and most of the local bearing producers are using Baosteel bearing steel as their raw material to produce bearings exported to the world. Baosteel bearing steel has gained quality certificates from many internationally famous companies such as SKF, NSK etc., and is supplying NSK, NTN and TIMKEN in large quantity. At present, it is supplying Japanese Minebea Company with high-precision micro-sized super clear bearing steel.
High Grade Construction Steel
Baosteel leads its domestic peers in producing structure steel used for high buildings. Baosteel weathering steel possesses the same quality as its international rivals, and is used in high buildings.
The Baosteel color coated plate is extensively used to build villas, motels and granaries. Our high strength color coated plate product series can be used in large span arch construction. Baosteel has also developed the hot coated aluminum zinc base plate, fluorocarbon and high grade polyurethane preprinted galvanized plate which are being used in the electricity-generating building of China's Great Wall Station at the South Pole.
The high strength PC strand and PC wire coil produced by Baosteel account for 30% of the domestic market share. Baosteel boasts the highest output and technology standing for these products in China.
Stainless Steel
Baosteel cold rolled stainless steel plate has already achieved the world level quality standard. The main products include steel grade 300 and 400 series. The surface processes include 2 B, 2 D, NO.1, NO.3, NO.4, HL, BA and coining etc. The product is extensively used in elevator face plate, automobiles, household electric appliances, kitchens, cutlery and building decoration etc.
At present, the project to expand the production of cold rolled stainless steel plate and coil is under construction. The project to produce stainless steel, hot rolled carbon steel and stainless steel long products is in the trail production stage. Upon completion, Baosteel will become a hot and cold rolled stainless steel manufacturing center with plate/coil dominating the product mix while stainless steel sheet, strip, tube, bar and wire supplement it.
